Listening to Jose Gonzalez is like watching the leaves fall at the twilight of Summer and the birth of Fall. Acoustic and earthy, the Swedish act brings a sense of calm into at times stomping folk scene.

Gonzalez, of Argentine descent and Swedish birth, weaves together influences of blues, indie, and earthy acoustics. Clap and slap along to the invigorating, refreshing depths in “Leaf Off/The Cave,” a sweetly simple layering of rhythm and haunting contemplation. But, it’s the cathartic emotion of “Heartbeats” that seizes my very being.

This year, Gonzalez released the album, Vestiges & Claws, which is filled with more enrapturing acoustic gorgeousness. Armed with only acoustics and a stool, he owns the stage in the most poetic sense of lonely, and that element in itself resonates as a performer.

Recognize the crescendo built up in “Step Out?.” The momentum-building, striking climax was a track on the soundtrack of The Secret Life of Walter Mitty — and it’s nothing short of cinematic beauty.
