I get so proud of Florida bands, my own home state heroes. This scene has just enveloped me so nicely and held my weird little head while I’ve whirred around in awe of its depth. A depth whose reaches trickle up all the way from the mother fuggin’ MIAO (which I’m told is slang for Miami … sure).

Jacuzzi Boys. I’m cheesing just typing it. Their blend of surfer psych rock has a similar effect, and I dare you not to bop to “Double Vision” off of their sophomore self-titled joint. They wrote this about the record on their bandcamp,

The one with the boy and the girl and the plastic lounger on the beach. ‘Be My Prism’ was the invitation. ‘Black Gloves’ and ‘Double Vision’ the promise. ‘Dust’ was the rising tide. ‘Rubble,’ ‘the dirty uncle. ‘Hotline’ was the lightning storm, and Ultraglide’ was the ending, the part where he drove her home with the windows down.

If you’ve seen any James Ponsoldt film, then you know the indie feeling they speak of and they embody it perfectly.

Most recently, the South Florida guys treated us to their EP, Happy Damage, which takes their previous efforts, amps up the Coastal vibes, adds a dash of distortion, and a whole lot of sandy-picked riffs. Roll up what the good Mother earth gave you and meet them at Will’s Pub this Sunday for a groovin’ good time.
