One of my favorite reggae bands in the game, Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad, is currently traveling home from their Colorado tour and about to travel to… Florida! Yes sirrr, I haven’t recorded a panda sighting since last summer at Reggae On The Block 2016 in Downtown Orlando. The gang has a slew of shows scheduled in the Sunshine State, two of which I will most certainly be at… Thursday, March 2 at West End Trading Co. in Sanford and Sunday, March 5 at Reggae Rise Up Festival.

Giant Panda Guerilla Dub Squad released their sixth studio album Make It Better on September 16, 2016. The album debuted at #1 on the Billboard Reggae Chart (also #1 on iTunes Reggae Chart) and it is their second release to claim the #1 Billboard spot as their fourth studio album Steady reached the top back in 2014.

“It’s great to see Panda fans embracing their new album and connecting to it on so many levels,” says Seth Herman founder of Rootfire Cooperative. He adds, “Over the past 15 years, Panda has been able to successfully traverse many styles with a level of musicianship, passion, and dedication that is relentless. Make It Better is another step in that direction with a relevant theme that is current, but will also stand the test of time.”
The new album from the Rochester, New York-based quintet addresses the theme and title of the album, not just through music, but through art, conversation, and everyday living. With children, families, and age, the band has made an effort to focus on the economics of time: how to spend it together efficiently while pursuing goals with intention. This vision helped shine new light on the importance of capturing and sharing recorded moments more frequently. The result is the band’s finest work to date.
Critical praise for Make It Better is pouring in from media outlets including Relix, Jambase, AXS, and Live For Live Music who calls the band, “one of the most innovative and genre-pushing reggae bands out there.” Giant Panda will be on tour throughout 2017 in support of their new album.
