When Culture Club’s first phenomenally successful record, Colour by Numbers, came out, I was four years old. As a small child, I remember hearing “Karma Chameleon” on the radio in my parent’s car, but even more vividly I remember seeing this:

One of the clearest memories that I have of Culture Club from that era was their guest appearance on…..wait for it……THE A-TEAM! Don’t believe me? I don’t blame you. I wouldn’t either if I hadn’t seen it with my own eyes. So, here you go:
Nothing like a team-up of Boy George and BA Barackas to make you scratch your head in confusion. Titans of 80’s pop culture teamed up on national television. (And this was back before cable had hundreds of channels.)
Anyone who has ever listened to Culture Club albums knows that they are filled with diversity. As their Wikipedia page states: “The group, supporters of the synthpop genre, made numerous forays into reggae and showed a strong propensity for the subgenre of ballads.” You don’t say? “Do You Really Want to Hurt Me” basically personifies this drastic understatement.

Due to Boy George’s off-stage, personal-life shenanigans (read: legal troubles) the group has had quite the tumultuous existence. Their active history goes like this: 1981-1986, 1998-2002, and 2011-present. Despite having sold more than 50 million records, it’s been awhile since they’ve had quite this amount of buzz here in the States. (George has also had a very successful career as a European DJ, frequently featured by Ministry of Sound.)
Culture Club will be playing a highly-anticipated show at Hard Rock Live Orlando on Sunday, August 16th!
